“This independent pantomime is a consistently spectacular affair thanks to designer Jasmine Swan, whose use of rich colours and inventive settings brings an extra level of polish to this seasonal highlight.”
Jasmine is an award-winning Set & Costume Designer working across theatre, dance, opera, live events and immersive experiences in the UK and internationally. Her work in theatre spans plays, musicals, pantomimes, children’s book adaptations, dance and new writing.
She won Best Costume Design at the UK Pantomime Awards 2023 for Beauty & the Beast (Mercury Theatre), and has since been nominated the following two years for Best Set Design and Best Costume Design. She was a The Stage Debut Award Nominee in 2018 for Best Designer for her debut season of work, a Linbury Prize for Stage Design Finalist in 2017 and multiple OffWestEndAward nominations. She was a resident designer at New Diorama Broadgate Design Studio 2021-22 and Laboratory Associate Designer at Nuffield Southampton Theatres in 2017-18. Jasmine trained at Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts.
She is interested in creating surreal, abstract and expressionistic spaces, with sustainability and a greener practice in mind. Jasmine enjoys creating work that’s playful, eclectic, textural, non-naturalistic, detailed and inherently theatrical.
“The set is a glorious riot of hidden delights, like a giant Polly Pocket, the mountainside opening up to reveal a fairytale cottage, while the costumes – although different from the book’s illustrations – seem somehow iconic. I can imagine them as popular Hallowe’en outfits.”
“Jasmine Swan’s set and costume design drags us from vibrant undersea kingdoms to the shadowy glamour of Ursula’s lair with dazzling flair. The colours, textures, and clever visual gags are a feast. ”
“...expounded by first-rate performances and a spectacular set and costume design from Jasmine Swan, which, laden with intricate detail, explodes with colour.”
“Jasmine Swan’s set and costume designs are strikingly colourful and imaginative, a perfect visual expression of the production’s aesthetic.”

“The sets and costumes explode with colour; it’s as if they’ve been waiting all year to show us what colour was invented for. The Mercury team have crafted a world so enchanting that leaving it feels like waking from a wonderful dream. Gasp-worthy magical moments and scene after scene of pure festive delight. You’ll leave the theatre with aching sides from laughing, a warm fuzzy glow, and your Christmas spirit fully awakened. Quite simply: this may well be the best panto in East Anglia. A triumph for the Mercury Theatre and a gift to audiences this festive season.”
